Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S.)

Ayurveda means “the science of life” (ayur means “life” and veda means “science” in Sanskrit). Ayurveda is a discipline of the upaveda or “auxiliary knowledge” in Vedic tradition.Ayurveda has its prime origin from Atharva-Veda and apart as a supplement of the Rig-Veda. Dhanvantari is worshipped as the God of Ayurveda.

The aim of this system is to prevent illness¸ heal the sick and preserve life. The Ayurveda has its origins from the India and extended its wings in various parts of the world. Ayurveda was taught in Gurukula system in ancient days, which is now been evolved in to under graduate & post graduate courses from Institutions

A Full Time 4.5 years study & 1year Internship course.

Admission strictly by NEET(National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency).

After completion as per NCISM norms you may practice, do post graduation even go for teaching

Graduate level course

5½ years (4½ year main course + 1 year Internship) Degree course leading to Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) Ayurvedacharya is being conducted throughout the country under IMCC Act, 1970. The syllabus and curriculum is uniform throughout the country and is being conducted only in Ayurvedic Medical Colleges affiliated to universities and only after getting permission from Dept. of AYUSH, Union Govt. Of India to start the course / undertake the admissions.

Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM) was the statutory regulatory body constituted under IMCC Act 1970 regulating the Ayurveda education at degree level as well as at PG level as well as the practice of Ayurvedic medicine in India.

NOW N.C.I.S.M.(National Commission of Indian System of Medicine) doing above mentioned job.

Subjects Studied during Graduate Course in Ayurveda (BAMS)

1st Profession Ayurvedic as Modern Anatomy & Physiology, Ayurvedic
Classical Texts, Sanskrit Language.
2nd Profession Ayurvedic Classical Texts, Social and Preventive Medicine, Ayurvedic Toxicology, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics including herbal and herbo-mineral medicines as well as essential modern pharmacology, diagnostics and clinical methods.

  • The PG degree course is of three years duration leading to specialty in the concerned subject with the degree of MD (Ayurveda Vachaspati) / MS (Ayurveda Dhanwantari) after successfully completion of the course.
  • The syllabus and curriculum for each specialty is uniform throughout the country and is being conducted only in Ayurvedic Medical Colleges affiliated to universities and only after getting prior permission from Dept. of AYUSH, Union Govt. of India to start the course / undertake the admissions.
